Flag Day Citizenship Ceremony

One hundred and six children from twenty three countries became the newest U.S.

citizens in a ceremony at the Richard Nixon Presential Library and Museum.
They are receiving a Certificate of Citizenship that serves as evidence that they are U.S. citizens. They were born abroad and are claiming U.S. citizenship through their parents. The ceremony started with a slide show that pictured some of the famous landmarks in the United States and included comments from other new citizens. The Esperanza High School Honor Guard presented the Colors.

The Yorba Linda Middle School Choir was unable to be there in person due to the Corona Virus. They used electronic mail to perform to sing the National Anthem and “This land is your land”.

Charlie Zhang was a keynote speaker. He arrived in the United States from China with only $20 and a clarinet. Mr Zhang founded the Pick-Up Stix restaurant chain and supports organizations such as Pacific Symphony the Bowers Museum and in 2016 founded OC Music and Dance.

A roll call of the twenty three countries represented and then the Administration of the Oath of Allegiance.
The Orange Elks handed out the Elks booklet “About Our Flag”. Bob Doberneck commented about the history of the flag.

As the program closed, our newest citizens waived the American Flag and sang to Lee Greenwood's song  “God Bless the U.S.A”.
