Orange County Stand Down Update/Information
Members all; As you are my home lodge let me share with you what I know about the 1st annual Stand Down to be held September 17th and 18th at Santa Ana College Lot 13.
This is being promoted by the County of Orange and Veterans
First with the sole objective to help an estimated 300 Homeless Veterans and their families obtain Medical, Dental, Vision, Clothing and food. It will be virtually a tent city with single access and egress.
Our role as Orange Elks in the District ( all 10 lodges) is to provide a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning from 6-9. I have already put in place the cooks and we have a very reasonable budget that will be presented to each lodge for a minimal donation. As a result, basically, down the road I will be asking each lodge for volunteers on Sunday the 18th to help serve coffee, spread some love and support.
For you information, our friends in the American Legion ( Newport Harbor) are cooking all day Saturday Breakfast, lunch and Dinner. Also for your Information, anyone who wants to just show up and help out on Saturday is certainly
welcome and I would proudly ask you to wear your lodge shirt.
I thank all of you for your support and for your dedication to our Veterans. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me as I am directly involved in this project for all the Elks in Orange County.

Yesterday, November 19th was the "Vets First Thank You Luncheon" for all the charities that supported the first annual Orange County Stand Down.
The following Orange Coast District volunteers were in attendance at the luncheon:

Many thanks to those volunteers that attended the luncheon as well as to those who helped at the Orange County Stand Down but were unable to attend the luncheon on Saturday.
Next year's Orange County Stand Down will be held August 16-18th, 2012 at the Costa Mesa Armory.
In addition, many thanks to all of the members of Newport Elks Lodge #1767 for their very very successful Veterans Family Day Picnic/ Boat Rides and games. They entertained over 400 Veterans Families this past Saturday.
