Hondo, Ryan and the Orange Elks Lodge

On March 8, 2006 the Orange Elks Lodge #1475 donated $5000 to the City of Orange Police Department to help purchase a new police dog. Meet Hondo, a Belgian Shepherd born in Slovakia. Hondo is 6 years old and weighs 90 lbs

However, when Hondo shows up for work he is a patrol officer and narcotics detective. Hondo’s partner is Orange Police Department Officer Ryan Johnson. In the past five years, Hondo was used 626 times for general searches (people, alarms, ect.). One very interesting stat on Hondo, Ryan doesn’t know how many times suspects have surrendered, but to date only 3 bad guys refused to surrender and were bit by Hondo. WOW! Going to jail tired and bleeding after being bit.

Hondo’s numbers are - 1200 lbs of marijuana
- two marijuana farms (unrelated to the 643 lbs above)
- 15 lbs of heroin (1 lb black tar heroin / 14 lbs brown heroin)
- 5 lbs of cocaine
-20 lbs of methamphetamine
-1 lb of bleck heroin
- approximately 6 lbs of brown heroin (one of the largest brown heroin finds in So Cal in recent memory)
- numerous items of drug paraphernalia (meth pipes, syringes, etc)
and
-approximately $155,000 in cash.

In competition, Hondo is in a class of his own:
Redondo Beach K9 Trials
2008- 2nd place manwork (its basically beating up the bad guy)
2009- 5th place narcotics, 3rd place manwork
2010- 1st place obedience, 2nd place article search, 2nd place vehicle search, 3rd overall narcotics
Riverside County Sheriff Trials
2009- 4th place narcotics

On his days off, Hondo loves to sleep, play with Ryan’s wife and their other 3 dogs.

The Orange lodge is very PROUD of  Officer Hondo and K9 officer Ryan Johnson! When times permits, Hondo and Ryan stop by the lodge for visits!
