Flag Day is a day to honor the U S flag and is observed on June 14. The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. President Woodrow Wilson had issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as National Flag Day in 1916. The Orange Elks have a Flag Day Program every year. This year there were several videos about our flag and several patriotic songs about our flag, One of the videos showed Rick Monday saving the U S flag ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrV8QPQAhxo). Two of our members were recognized and given an award for a project that honors the U S flag in the community. Orange Elks member J C Cortez started Flags over Orange/Villa Park/Tustin (FOOVPT). The idea was to provide a flag for an individual that was either a Military, Police, Fire or Veteran. All they had to do was ask. These are seniors or disabled neighbors that would love to fly a flag but needs a helping hand mounting one. Every flag installed has a picture placed on the groups page with permission of the recipient and shares a brief bio. The web site is https://www.facebook.com/groups/flagsoverorange. This year the Home Depot in Orange and the Orange Elks made donations to FOOVPT. J C and his crew have placed over 130 flags.
