Michael O’Donoghue, an Orange Elks member and past Scout Master for the Orange Elks Lodge Boy Scout Troop #1475, presided over the Court of Honor for Matthew James Miller. Matt is the eleventh Eagle Scout from our troop since 2006.
The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is the highest honor the Boy Scouts of America offers. Many congratulation letters were received from people all over the United States including Senator Diane Feinstein, the Department of the Air Force and NASA to name a few. He received a certificate from the Orange Lodge and a U S flag flown over the capital from Congressman Loretta Sanchez.
Matt’s accomplishments include 24 merit badges, Arrow of Light, Order of the Arrow, Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol, Patrol Leader and Webelos Den Chief. Matthew’s best scouting experiences were his campouts at Camp Chawanakee and his favorite meal there was the spaghetti dinners. He indicated that his priorities were his family, his friends, baseball and the scouting.
For his project, he designed and built three flag Retirement Boxes. The lodge donated to the project. If you want to retire an old flag, you can find one of the boxes our lobby. The other two are at the Chamber of Commerce in Orange and the American Legion Post 31 in Santa Ana.
Matt is a senior at Villa Park High School and plans to attend Cal State Fullerton. In his acceptance, he thanked Teresa Beach, a founder of the Elks Boy Scout Troop and his first scout leader and the Scout Master Monty Miller, his dad!
