In the past several years the Orange Elks Lodge #1475 has donated $15,000 to the City of Orange Police Department to help purchase German Shepherd police dogs. The dogs were born in Slovakia. Orange Elk member Mike Duff has been the person behind the fund raising effort. At the 17 th Annual Riverside County Sheriff’s K 9 Trials, Orange P D Officer Trevor Cullen and Argo placed 1st overall in Narcotics Search (out of 35 dogs). The competition consisted of three different scenarios - area sniff, vehicle sniff, and article sniff. Officer Carlos Gutierrez and Lycan placed 4th place in patrol building search (out of 40 dogs). The test was which dog could find the suspect the quickest. Last year, as a part of the narcotics enforcement effort, the canine team helped in the seizure of several thousand pounds of narcotics and large sums of cash. The combined efforts of the Orange Elks Lodge and the canine team have helped to provide a safer community for our children.
