The Elks National Drug Awareness Program (DAP) has programs that tackles the leading drug abuse issues that face our young people today.
Our young people are the leaders of tomorrow. The Orange Elks Drug Awareness Programs works on getting the dangers of drug use to our elementary, middle schools and high school kids. Every year, we hand out anti-drug literature to parents, teachers, and kids. This week our Drug Awareness Chairmen Mike Cash arranged to take our drug awareness message to 18 elementary and middle schools and hold a webinar session in the evening for parents and adults. The message asked the kids to think about what it means to be drug free and the consequences of using drugs.
The message to the elementary schools was on the effects of vaping and to the middle schools making healthy choices about choosing to use drugs. After each assembly, Mike asked questions and the correct answers would receive a prize that could be an ?In N Out? gift card, a game, or a DAP Soccer Balls.
The Orange Unified School District was one of the very first school districts that allowed Elks National Drug Awareness Speaker Ray Lozano back after the pandemic.

At the schools we had great reception from the Principals, the Assistant Principals, the staff, and the kids.
Ray is also conducted a webinar for the parents and adults covering the same topics that he's been present to the students.
Ray made his talks interesting, and the kids listened.
Each talk started with a question about why they attended the assembly?
Did they want to learn something about drug use?
Did they want to learn something about drug use for a friend?
Did they want to just get out of class?
Some of the kids just wanted out of class.
Ray gave an example of kids that choose drug use and later realized what that the drug use was the wrong choice.
Drugs and alcohol take away from your potential to do great things with your life. Nicotine is the ingredient in both cigarettes and vapes and is very addictive. As few as three cigarettes or one day of vaping and you are usually hooked. Getting off either is extremely difficult.
