The goal of the Reading Promise aims to target Kindergarten through 4th graders at a dozen Title 1 Elementary Schools in the Orange Unified School District and put a book in their hands. Last year, the Orange Elks received the $10,000 Elks National Foundation (ENF) Impact Grant for this project and held two events at the Orange Public Library. At a Jordan Elementary assembly, the students of the 3rd grade classes were presented The California Readers Medal Certificate for winning the Orange Library Reading Challenge. Each of the third graders received a goodie bag from the Orange Police Dept. Orange Police Chief and Orange Elks member Tom Kisela presented the Certificate to the school and police departments association presented a check to the library to purchase more books.
