In the last two years the Orange Elks have partnered with the Down Syndrome Association of OC (DSA/OC). We have sponsored a fishing trip and participated in their Buddy Walk. This year chairmen Mike Cash and his committee planned for a picnic in the park. The DSA/OC and the Orange Elks went to Irvine Regional Park. The generosity of the lodge members and a Beacon Grant from the Elks National Foundation set the stage for a great picnic!

The picnic started with a lunch that included cheese burgers, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and hotdogs with all the “fixins”. In addition, chips, macaroni salad, soda, water, juices and miscellaneous desserts. El Pollo Loco donated 100 meals.

After lunch a team of drivers shuttled our guests to the OC Zoo or the Irvine Railroad for their enjoyment.

A fishing competition, softball/whiffle ball batting, bean bag toss game, lawn bowling, hula hoops, water balloon toss, or just enjoying the playground at the park.  The crafts were tear art pictures, tattoos and stickers along with a graffiti chalk wall.

The Orange Elks are very generous in giving their “Time, Treasure, Teamwork and Talents” to put on events like this and it was very evident today. Over 300 people attended the event that included the kids and their family members. 60 Elks and family members helped in the event.
The Volunteers who made it happen!
