The members of the Orange Elks are very generous in giving their “Time, Treasures and Talents” in holding our events! This was very much on display at a lodge sponsored fishing trip.
A very simple definition of a beacon is a guiding light. The Orange Elks Lodge # 1475 applied for and received an ENF Beacon Grant. The Elks partnered with the Down Syndrome Association of OC and the Down Syndrome Foundation of OC for a fieldtrip to take kids fishing. Over 200 people attended the event that included the kids, their family members, 46 Elks and 16 other volunteers.
When the kids showed up they were escorted to the Catch Pond where the Lake Pro Team members guaranteed they would catch their first fish! Then the kids could catch more fish, ride on a pontoon boat, enjoy a hot dogs and hamburgers lunch, play games, win prizes and they all received a participation medallion.
The Daiwa Company donated 10 rods and reels. Other supporters were Orange P D, the Orange County Fire Department and Elroy T. Elk. The event was held at Irvine Lake which is a great place to fish and their staff was outstanding and supportive!
In the Elks, we practice that “Elks Care Elks Share” and with an event like this you will remember that Extra Nice Feeling (E N F)!
