Hi all,
We made it to Portland yesterday in one piece. Â It was a beautiful day to fly and a beautiful day here in Portland, it was in the 90s when we got here. Â We explored Portland yesterday (which is a nice way to say we got lost trying to find a place for dinner). Â Portland is beautiful!! Â
So I'm going to try to keep you updated on what is going on up here so stay tuned. Â
Thank you to all (and especially to John and Becky) for a wonderful send off on Wednesday night!! Â The Lodge jackets are fantastic. We will show them off with pride!!!
Happy Fourth of July!!!!

Hi All,
Coming to you from Portland. Â We attended the Opening Ceremonies tonight. Â It was awesome! Â The March of the Flags of all the States, then the Flags of the Branches of the Armed Forces, followed by the POW/MIA Flag. culminating with the Flag of our Country was spectacular. Current Grand Exalted Ruler Paul Hensel told us of his travels around the Country this past year and presented his First Lady with a beautiful diamond ring for all that she had done for Elkdome this year. Â It was a wonderful way to kick off Convention. Â We are counting the days until our own Bob Genelle is jewelled as our District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, that will be Thursday. Â Mr. Genelle is being very abusive toward your ER, sticking him twice. Â Rick suspects this will only get worse once Poohbah is sworn in (I'm taking Rick to get some cheese to go with his whine as we speak). Â
We are having a great time, and the weather is beautiful. Â Wish you all were here!!!
Love, Rick and Joanne

Hi All,
Coming to you from National Convention in Portland. Â Rick suvived "hell" day. Â Hell day started at 6:45 a.m. and finished at 3:00 p.m. Â Rick attended the morning business session and then an ER luncheon filled with a ton of great info that he is bringing back to the Lodge. Â My morning started with breakfast with all the First Ladies courtesy of Janice Genelle.
We attended a dinner hosted by Bob and Janice Genelle where he proceeded to continue to physically abuse Rick so Rick may have to take it to the Grand Exalted Ruler to get Mr. Genelle to stop picking on him. Â The dinner was held at a beautiful restaurant on the 30th floor of a building in downtown Portland with views of the river and city that were spectacular! Â The food was wonderful and the company fantastic!! Â All our District Leaders and the ERs and their Ladies were in attendance.
We had the new State President Lee Carjola and his wife in our hospitality suite this evening. Â The suite is really rocking and we are having a ball.
We wish you were all here to enjoy the hospitality of Orego! Â More tomorrow. Â
Rick and Joanne Also the confusion that Rick is Jim Anderson continues with other Lodges from other States. Â oOf course, they go around introducing themselves as each other, so that ish'thelping the confusion!
Tomorrow we have the Ladies' Entertainment which I'm looking forward to attending.

Hi All,
Hope you had a great meeting tonight! We missed being with you but are having a great time.
On Tuesday, Rick attended the morning session of Grand Lodge, while I joined the Orange Coast District Ladies in attendance here for the Spouses' Entertainment at the Convention Center. It was hilarious!! We were treated to two groups - one a group called "Nun Better," which was a group of ladies from a local lodge that performs songs from "Sister Act" in nun habits. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! The other group from another local lodge performed country songs adding special costumes. Last night we attended the Southwest Ball that was held here at our hotel. The food was good, but the company was wonderful. We've met someone wonderful people.
This morning Rick, the other ERs from our District and our District Leaders attended the Voting Session of Grand Lodge. Rick will let you know about all the Resolutions that were voted on today and how they effect our Lodge in his next article. All of us Ladies joined them later in the morning to attend the Memorial Service. Prior to the Memorial Service, the Veterans Report was given, during which Grand Lodge gave a check to the Wounded Warrior Program. I think this might be a program that we as a Lodge might be interested in supporting. I'm going to get more information and bring it into the Lodge so you all can look at it. The Memorial Sercice was a very touching ceremony, complete with Amazing Grace and Taps. Not a dry eye in the house.
Tonight we had dinner with the Garden Grove Lodge members, who are here to represent us in the Ritual Contest. They did us proud coming in sixith place in our Division. Their Inner Guard placed Second in the Country! They were awesome and when you see them, let them know how proud you are of them. We went for Italian food at Momma Mia and if you are in Portland, go eat there!!! Tonight was also the ER Ball at the Convention Center. It is an early night for us since we both have to be at the Grand Lodge session tomorrow for the installation of our DD-Elect Bob Genelle. We can't miss that, can we?? As of tomorrow, I guess we really have to listen to him since the "Elect" will be dropped.
So to you, Good Night!! I can't wait to get back and share all of our pictures with you!! Take care, Rick and Joanne

Hello Everyone,
Hope you all have had a wonderful week thus far. I know we have!!
Today was the final day of the National Convention. Everyone here with the Orange Coast District headed over to the Convention Center early for the final session of Grand Lodge.
We heard speeches from the two National Hoop Shoot Winner - one was the most amazing third grader I've ever heard speak. She spoke publically better than most CEOs!! It was hilarious watching Jim Anderson of GardenGrove trying to get recognized by the Grand Exalted Ruler when the GER was looking for a second to a motion. Then the time we had all waited for was upon us. The installation of the District Deputy Grand Exalted Rulers. It was a very proud moment to see our own Bob Genelle take his oath of office. He and Janice are looking forward to serving as our DDGER this year and we are looking forward to working with them.
We all headed back to the hotel and to the hospitality room, where we celebrated the installation of Bob Genelle as well as the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Lee and Rosie Northcutt. It was a great way to end the National Convention - celebrating with our friends of the Orange Coast District!!!
Tonight, we had a quiet dinner with Rick's Mom at a steakhouse call the Ringside. If you are ever in Portland you must eat here! It was fabulous.
Tomorrow, we are off on a Brew Bus Tour with the Huntington Beach ER and First Lady, Garrett and Laurie Hamblin. We fly home on Saturday and can't wait to share our Grand Lodge experience with all of you at our Lodge Picnic on Sunday. See you all there!!
Take care!! Rick and Joanne
